Citing reasons like tough advertising scenario and weakening circulation rates the new publisher of Boston Globe, the New England Media Group, plans big cut, according to memos from publisher Steve Ainsley and editor Martin Baron. The group will cut about 125 jobs, 17 jobs will be vanished from Globe's newsroom and 2 from the opinion pages. Positions currently open will also be on hold. Consolation voluntary buyouts are stored for the employees who have given their service to the brand for last 10 years or more. If you are less than 10, you are scrap. The New England Group also wants to plan outsource around 55 jobs from its back office and advertising departments.
For the Editor, Mr. Baron the exercise is a pure (or not so pure!!!) surprise. The announcement happened when he was out of town. It seems, if he would have been in the town, no one would dare to take such steps.
