Hmmm…racial remarks were never new for the call center agents working in offshore outsourcing companies, but after Shilpa Shetty-Jade Goody-Big Brother-Channel4 incident now the stories have got a different makeover altogether. Consider this,
"Debalina Das, 22, a computer help-line agent in the city of Hyderabad was greeted by a caller from United States with a torrent of racial and sexual slurs, accused her of "roaming about naked without food and clothes" and asked, "What do you know about computers?" The diatribe ended with the comment: "This company is just saving money by outsourcing to Third World countries like yours."
The manger has asked Debalina to forget the incident, treat it as professional hazard and move on.
May be a tricky issue, but I sincerely feel such attack happens at all the places of the world in different tones and shades. And it possibly has been happening since the first day of human civilization. One American abused one Indian, go deep into this US guy's demography, find out what state he lives in, and I am sure you will discover (without seeking help of a psychologist) that he would hate the most prosperous state next to his state to him (or the most international sports medal winning and likes) and its native people. He will also hate his neighbor who is better-looking than him or the one who changes his car in every second month.
We look for reasons to hate people. And when we find that we just release.
