
The Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Unions (EPMU) which represent Air New Zealand ground service workers says the proposal to outsource ground handling services to multi national company like Swissport is just a thinly veiled attempt to cut wages. With the announcement of planned outsourcing the national carrier thus put as many as 1700 jobs in jeopardy. To seek an amicable situation talks between the EPMU and the airline officials are on the way but it seems like it would be difficult to convince the airlines officials The union is accusing the airline of docking the average worker's pay by $15,000 dollars. Last month it has filed legal action against the airline since it did not disclose important information about its plans.
