What a school administration should do when two teachers and one paraprofessional person goes to leave leaving the kid students in despair. The principal of O'Connell Elementary School in East Hartford temporarily reassigned couple of staff members who are otherwise meant for remedial reading instruction to struggling students. The principal feels crisis like these can be met because many districts like New Britain, Ansonia and Bloomfield like East Hartford will to begin using a private firm to oversee substitute staffing.
The incident may not of national importance, but incidents like these at the local centers provide hints for bigger changes. That's a cheaper way fix the problem. Geoffrey Smith, the director of the Substitute Teaching Institute at Utah State University said that $2 billion is spent nationally each year on substitute teachers.
