After many companies setting up their outsourcing offices Indian embassy is in the US capital is planning to outsource processing of visas to a US-based company. However, things are not clear as of now whether the 40 staffers that the embassy employs would be laid off or not. Though seems like a good PR activity from the government of India the real benefit will be in making the visa process “more efficient, smoother and quicker,” as described by an embassy official.
Most of the media reports, from America as well as from India are more interested in the outsourcing angle, but the real benefits in the form of faster processing of work will be reaped by the travelers in the medium and long term.
