
More than non-core tasks or management of individual applications increasingly plethora of British manufacturers and retailers are choosing to outsource all of their IT functions. The study done by Martec International shows that out of top 100 retailers in the UK, eight have gone for complete IT outsourcing in last one year while two major big such contracts were also been signed during that time. Supermarket group Somerfield has very recently has signed a £33m seven-year deal with Tata Consulting Services last December. With this move, the outsourcer expects to lessen the IT cost by 33%. Similarly, DSG International, which owns Currys, Dixons and PC World, has also signed an outsourcing deal with HCL last January 2006. Both HCL and TCS headquarters are located in India.
