Outsourcing of IT functions seems to be the flavor of the season as Indian telecom operators are inking deals one after one. And believe it or not for all from telecom providers to real estate biggies, IBM has become their chosen partner.
Last year India’s top mobile company Bharti Airtel awarded $100 million deal to IBM
Earlier this month another Indian mobile operator Idea Cellular handed over a 10 year contract valued between $600 million to $800 million to IBM
DLF, India’s (supposedly) one of the biggest real estate firms, DLF also preferred IBM over others and given the task to transform its IT infrastructure. The deal is worth $29 million.
And now it seems the Big Blue is all set to acquire the biggest outsourcing deal ever signed by an Indian operator. Hutchison Essar, the telecom company possibly will ask IBM to take care of its IT operations, the contract is valued anything between $1.4 billion and $1.6 billion.
