At the Qantas Media Awards people saw some unpleasant moments. Journalists who were present there hurled their anger against which last March announced a plan to outsource a good chunk of editorial work from New Zealand to Auckland. The journalists who were members of Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union (EPMU) members were upset because the sub-editing work is migrating to Australian company PageMasters. One of the journalists felt that one way the management is outsourcing work to Australia and in another way it is organizing such baseless awards function.
The group published titles like Hawke's Bay Today, The New Zealand Herald, The Listener, Bay of Plenty Times and The Daily Post in Rotorua.
Wondering if journalism outsourcing is gaining momentum...
