The headline of the article says, there is new law in the LPO space. The intro says American organization now can outsource legal work to India. I thought there must have some new law being implemented which will enable outsourcing of legal work to India in a much easier way. But no, I could not find any information on that in the article.
Leaving the confusing headline, the article is full with information, consider this:
The services currently being employed by the U.S. firms and corporations consist primarily of back office document review and intensive research. However, many of the firms are suited to provide a greater set of services including the drafting of contracts, motions, briefs and any other necessary legal documents.
Indian LPO services can be either beneficial or problematic for American law firms. The Indian firms provide services at no more than ten to fifteen percent of the fees generally charged by U.S. lawyers. U.S. firms can effectively employ the Indian legal teams in an effort to both lower costs and cut their own fees, while maintaining or increasing profits. Conversely, as the industry matures the Indian firms may continue to more aggressively pursue U.S. corporate business and take over a great deal of the work that was previously sent to domestic firms.
