
The Benton Harbor-based appliance maker Whirlpool Corp. will cut 700 jobs in Tennessee as it is outsourcing manufacturing of dehumidifiers, air purifiers and cooking rangesrelocates. Whirlpool is looking for potential global partners to shake hands and to outsource range of products under Whirlpool brand name.
Does Whirlpool want to get rid off its manufacturing headache? It seems it will now concentrate on marketing, logistics and promotional parts only.
In a phased manner the production of dehumidifiers and air purifiers at LaVergne will be slowed down. The new provider, which is yet to be zeroed on, will start making products for the 2008 season.
