There is a perception that all the tech jobs are going offshore, that outsourcing will eat up all the technology related jobs in the coming year. Such is the widespread myth that in last couple of years US universities have noticed a considerable decline in technology courses. It seems, as if Americans are not interested any more in technology suddenly. The universities to get students from abroad run aggressive marketing strategies etc.
What surprised me is this report (Via BusinessWeek) from Carnegie Mellon University. This report said that compared to tech (not more than 15%), more percentage of jobs outsourced in the field of Banking, Finance and Insurance (about 40%).Followed by Telecom (17%) and Manufacturing (12%).
Myth, as they say, prevails. Logic not.
