
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), UK’s biggest drug manufacturing company has signed an outsourcing deal with India's largest software outsourcing company, Tata Consulting Services. GSK will seek TCS’ help to set up a drug development center in Mumbai. TCS will help GSK’s clinical research and development programme by providing outsourced data management and other medical trial reporting services. Though, the size of the contract is not known, it is estimated that the deal size will be of approximately £ 10 million. It will create 100 new jobs in the first phase.
This is not the first time GSK is opening a support facility center in India. It has already set up research and developemnt center in Mumbai and Bangalore and employs close to 2,500 employees. GSK controls 5.9% of India’s pharmaceutical market.
