
Yes, China is aggressively marketing for a dominant position in outsourcing market, but according to Kiran Karnik, China is unlikely to get ahead of India in the next 3-5 years. But is not that a short term answer, will China be able to beat India in the long term, Kiran Karnik dsirectly has not given any answer. He says, “The Chinese information technology (IT) sector is a matter of concern for India. However, it cannot be considered a threat.”
The recently released report from NASSCOM however is not taking a favor of India. IN its report it has mentioned that China has a significant potential to build a successful IT-BPO industry. With considerable domestic market potential, an extensive educated workforce and sturdy government support on developing the Business process outsourcing sector, China is set to become a major player in IT-BPO industry, said the report. That’s what the report, “Tracing China's IT Software Services Industry Evolution," has stated.
IT software and services sector in China is estimated at 12.2 billion U.S. dollars in terms of revenue in 2006. Out of that domestic market accounts for over whopping 86 percent of the total IT software and service revenues.
