Property firm Megaworld Corp. has made an offer of buying 54.5-hectare of Department of Finance’s land for a cool P1.2 billion in hard cash. Finance secretary John Phillip Sevilla who is also acting as the head of the bids and awards committee has stated that his committee has already seconded the Megaworld offer to the council. He further said that Megaworld’s quote is perfectly matching the minimum price which was set at P1.2-billion.
Megaworld spokesperson has said that if they win the deal it will apply for a "special economic zone" which will transform the former airport into a busy ‘cosmopoliton’ central business district. Megaworld also has plans to invite biggest of business process outsourcing (BPO) players to come and set up their centers in the SEZ, that is Visayas region.
