Critics are not ripping Alan Greenspan apart but not super applauding him either. No one is questioning though the release time of the book. It seems like a poetic-economic cycle of sorts have completed with the release of this book, “The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World.” The cycle which began with the wake of US terror attacks, when the Central bank under Alan Greenspan to check the financial crisis has lowered the interest rates. And now his prodigy child Ben Bernanke will (possibly) unveil the first ever cut in the key short-term interest rate in more than four years.
From business (as well as literary) point of view the release time could not have been better. “The Age Of Turbulence: Adventures In A New World” huge 513 tomb like autobiography (blended with some self justification and some economic testament) has made all the right media move. The old man understands pretty well how to inflate the curiosity level (just like the way he is accused of inflating the housing bubble) by serially appearing in newspapers, magazine and websites while taking on his critics who say he is responsible for the bubble by keeping interest rates too low. All happens in the pretext of the book.
What lessons budding writers (or pro ones) can learn from the old man? Nothing. Because Alan Greenspan himself is news, which people from all across USA can relate to. Whenever he opens his mouth he garners publicity. This time with carefully chosen timing (when Bernanke is about to take some decisions) he has made himself more newsworthy. Which writer can beat that?
