
DeVilbiss Healthcare, A Somerset based company will lay off 80 workers and move its manufcturing jobs to China. Company spokesperson said the step was inevitable as to remain competitive it had to move jobs to offshore countries. Earlier this year, the company spokesperson said it would outsource 40 positions. Now it has gone up to 80.
In Somerset, however, DeVilbiss Healthcare is not the first company to send its jobs offshore. In 2005, Crane Plumbing also moved its functions to offshore countries.
There was no protest from unions are seen. The management is negotiating with the United Independent Aerosol Workers, the concerned union here.
DeVilbiss now employs around 360 workers, it will only retain 50% of its present worker base.
