For Tulip (believe me she is no less beautiful than the original flower) the graveyard shift schedule has not changed for last couple of years. Her workday begins when stars start twinkle in the night sky, when people after watching the evening show come out of the movie theatre. Her body clock tries to adjust to the strange circadian rhythm, but rebels when work piles up, when deadline dares to cross the limit. As a leader to the team of 25 agents she has managerial responsibilities, she has to take care of the mandatory targets, but her body clock just does not want to listen to the external obligations. It wants to sleep, it wants a normal routine. No wonder, Tulip one day realizes that she is losing weight in quite an abnormal way.
Tulip is not alone, I get to hear crib from other call center agents too, they just don’t get enough sleep. These young guns are doing everything to put things in perspective, but no hope. They have tried yoga, mediation etc. but no help.
Doctors feel that more than anything else sleep disorders is the biggest killers for the night owls. The brain is unable to adjust to reversed biological time cycles and refuses to shut down. The body keeps on battling for quality sleep.
Along with Lack of Sleep add other dreaded graveyard factors like:
1. Too much coffee
2. Poor diet
3. No social life
I will discuss these here under Call Center Graveyard Series. Keep watching this space for more.
