However, that does not mean all Indian law students are excited with the opportunity. Some feel that Indian law graduates will prefer the exciting career in law, rather than being a mechanical clerk or legal transaction process executive in a knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) center. Law students from big cities will always prefer to be a part of exciting and glamorous domestic law industry, where, they know, if they slog for couple of years at relatively low remuneration, they will make it all up in the following years. There are also questions being raised about the quality of work the young attorneys perform in these LPO centers.
The buzz on legal Process Outsourcing is huge in developing countries like India. When in US associate lawyers charge $225 an hour in their first year and $450 in their seventh and eighth year, it makes sense for opportunistic global marketers to think of offshore countries to send some non-critical legal processing jobs. The rate normally is 10-15% of average US cost. This is the gross cost that the client has to pay to vendor and not to the agent. Agent gets even lower payment. And the turnaround time also does not exceed 24 hours. So, it does makes economic sense. In countries like India, as many as 12,000 jobs are already created in legal process outsourcing (LPO) sector, according to an industry estimate it may go up to 79,000 by 2015.
