Understanding crazy celebrities' weired moves are next to impossible. But one fact remains universal, whatever they do, they just refuse to disappear from the public glare. The insecurity looms large as they go past their prime. Britney was so desperate to regain the mind share, she did not mind taking the Paris Hilton route. Can gimmick substitute hard work? Can gimmick strongly position a weak product attributes? It can not.
World is not bothered about Paris Hilton's fine art (in true sense) performance capabilities. She is a Digg (in not so true sense) like platform, can spread glitter on the surface level for range of products and services and events.
For Britney, its much more than skin deep. She is a performing artist first. Britney is not realising that or else she would have seriously rehearsed for the MTV VMA night which was slated to be her big comeback performance, forget lip synch, that's nothing new, neither for Britney, nor for a lot of her colleagues, but the attitude that she shown during her performance simply pissed everyone off. It seems she is not convinced about herself, she is scared of threats of the year...Justin.
Its not all lost, Britney has successfully gained the world's attention for her antics over the last few months, curiosity quotient is definitely high in newer demographics (LOL), now its important that she follows it up with a bang. Thats the way it works in marketing, a pre-launch marketing campaign will fizz away overnight if the product does not live up to the hype it itself has created. Be serious Britney and pull it off...your performance. ,not your panty.

Ok, ok, she got another chance...Folks at Extra felt bad about herVMA performance. OK! Magazine reports:
The folks over at Extra want Britney Spears to give performing her new single “Gimme More” another try. The show says they will open their studio stage up to her so that can she can try to prove to everyone she is ready for her comeback.
