Has Sony decided to outsource the production of high powered cell-chip? , which was instrumental behind PlayStation 3 gaming console? Japanese daily
Nikkei (reg reqd) reports, over the next sixty days (it seems the process of unloading the facility has begun in full swing) Sony may well reach a decision to sell its cell production facilities to Toshiba for a cool $870 million. Well, the figure may not sound that cool, as in when you hear Sony is spending a whopping $1.7 billion to completely unload the facility.

This chip exclusively for PlayStation 3 console, Sony has created in conjunction with IBM and Toshiba.
Well, other chip manufacturing companies like Broadcom and PMC-Sierra have already outsourced its manufacturing processes to Asia. They only concentrate on design and marketing.
How many millions Sony will save from this decision, I don't know, but it wont be anything less than hundred.
