Novartis to outsource IT function to BT, 100+ staff to be axed

Novartis AG (NVS), Basel, Switzerland-based pharmaceutical group has outsourced support functions for its global IT and software infrastructure contract to British Telecom (BT). The deal is worth US$500 million, SonntagsZeitung a Swiss Weekly has reported citing today. The contract will run for seven years. This move will make more than 100 IT staff at Novartis redundant. Reuters reports the number could be less than 200. Novartis closed Friday's trading at $52.14, up 46 cents, in NYSE.
