Hollywood is finding its place in India’s sandal flavored city Mysore. No, they are not placing the palaces as the backdrop for Hollywood movies, actually Hollywood is outsourcing legal work to south Indian city.
Production house, 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures and Universal Studios have asked Mysore based company SDD Global Solutions to support them in doing legal research, contract drafting services and legal opinions.
SDD Global at present has 40 attorneys at its pay roll.
Getting all those legal requirements done in the US can be terribly expensive, considering lawyers have to be paid between $450 and $650 an hour. In India, on the other hand, the same kind of work would be paid at the rate of $60-$100 per hour, says Sajai Singh, an attorney with J Sagar Associates.
SDD Global is preparing legal documents to rebut controversial defamation action against HBO's Da Ali G Show. The plaintiff has sued HBO and Channel 4 Television, taking objection to "funny" statements made by the fictional buffoon, Ali G. "Our attorneys in Mysore are preparing a motion arguing that no reasonable person could take outlandish jokes of a fictional TV character seriously," Smith said.
