
Call center business is Caribbean Island is gaining momentum. May be not at the pace countries like India or Philippines, but it certainly is growing albeit slowly and steadily. In 2003, the islands have approx 500 people working in the industry, in 2007 the number reached to a modest 1,500. Industry insiders believe that the number would go up to 3000 very soon.
Now a new call center in Barbados plans to recruit 300 people. The company at present has 180 call center agents on its roll.
Deputy Prime Minister Mia Mottley in a brief address at the opening ceremony, noted the employment projections and said she "looked forward" to the company employing 600 by "as you have indicated".
Mottley, who is also Minister of Economic Affairs and Development, said Government was pushing the development of knowledge-based industries, including call centres. Link
