AT&T Call center workers in
Austin, Texas and surrounding areas are protesting to get raise in salary and other benefits. The employees, members of the Communications Workers of America union, are also rallying for better benefits. The company has made a profit of $3 billion, so the call center agent’s hike in salary is justified, they think. Does this mean, if AT&T for whatever reasons, does not post a healthy result next year, will these employees take responsibilities and quit?
More amusing I am about the fact that no big news agency or business magazine or newspaper or portal has actually covered the news and does an investigative
opinionated feature on this.
If this happens in Philippines, India or China, will the mainstream media in US react like this.
"They can pay their employees what they're worth," said Kim Black, CWA vice president and AT&T employee, commenting on the more than $3 billion profit the company posted last quarter.
Black, who was joined by about 15 others at the early morning rally on Andrews Highway, said they're hoping wages will be re-negotiated to at least the industry standard, which she sees as closer to $15 per hour versus the less than $13.50 they're paid now. News
