Lot of people wont agree, but many a times outsourcers do not consider cost-savings as the single most important criterion to evaluate a vendor, it is much more than lower-wage countries, it is, sometimes, about looking for areas that foster the best possible environment for productivity. Taiwan is one such country in Asia Pacific which is making a push to attract R&D investments from companies abroad.

According to unconfirmed sources from Taiwan's handset industry, the production of Sony Ericsson´s four newly released handsets will be outsourced to two Taiwan based OEM companies, Arima Communications and Chi Mei Communication Systems. the two producers from the country together will ship 15-18 million Sony Ericsson handsets in 2008. While Arima will produce the T270, T280 models as well as R300 Radio. Chi Mei Communication Systems will manufacture the R306 Radio. In 2007 Sony Ericsson purchased around 8.5 million handsets from Taiwan-based OEMs producers.Link
