
It’s not Philippines, according to an AT Kearney’s Global Service Location Index, Malaysia has been ranked as the third most ideal outsourcing center in the world after India and China.
In addition to sending to Malaysia jobs in areas like manufacturing and call center processes, companies (Fortune 1000 included) are using the country as a base for shared services like marketing and IT functions to support their operations in other countries.
The results are measured based on a country’s financial capabili
ties, the skills of its people, and the stability of its infrastructure and political environment...there are high hopes for the country’s outsourcing capabilities, which involves the outsourcing of existing processes to a third party provider. The most commonly outsourced processes are IT applications, human resource functions (such as payroll or training), financial applications and form processing.
According to the Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry of Malaysia (Pikom), Malaysia’s overall outsourcing industry is expected to be worth RM7bil by 2012. Read the full story here
In comparison to China’s stringent political environment, I think Malaysia’s stable political environment has also has given its edge over other countries. Malaysia produces 70,000-80,000 IT and engineering graduates annually.
