In 2005, Norwich Union has outsourced 500 jobs from its IT department. Now in 2008, the company is considering another round of lay off and whether to outsource more jobs or not. The giant insurance firm, which will blend with Aviva in the next two years, it seems does not care about its deteriorating brand image. It presently employs 2,600 people in its IT department.
It is believed that 400 of them will be affected. But officially it has been informed 250 jobs will be outsourced.
A spokesperson at Norwich Union confirmed that 250 jobs were under review, of which most are in Norwich but 30 are in York, and 20 in Bristol. But some reports have stated up to 400 IT workers could be affected.
Norwich Union is in talks with potential suppliers EDS and IBM, reports state, but the insurer would not confirm if that was the case.
