First let me tell you he was ranked amongst India’s 40 richest by Forbes. S. Gopalakrishnan (or Kris for close clients and friends) has been the CEO and Managing Director of Infosys since 1981. Not so media savvy, S. Gopalakrishnan in this interview talks about Infosys and its earlier days, global slowdown, Indian economy and more. Lets take a look.
Q: The worldwide economy is struggling. As a major global player, are you feeling any pain?
A: Growth has slowed down. Last year we grew at 36 percent in dollars spent and this year we are predicting growth at about 19 to 21 percent, but still it is growth. The reason why we continue to grow is that our market share is very, very low. We have only about 500 clients. There are a lot of companies that we don't work with. So there is still opportunity for growth.
Q: Many Indian companies are trying to move up the technology food chain from business processing work to research and development. What is the Infosys strategy? Are you following that same model?
