Over last couple of years there have been instances of credit card theft and data misplacing, knowingly and unknowingly from courtiers like India, China and Philippines. One British Newspaper has even done a sting operation on this and successfully been able to create quite a stir. How secure customer’s data are with these offshore agents, these have been favorite topics of discussions amongst academicians and industry honchos. We also got to read reports (Read Federal State Commission's report) claiming that each year banks in Europe and US burn millions of dollars as frauds but they don’t raise any alarm or issue press release for fear of bad name and distrust.
Anyway, here we have another survey conducted by Ponemon
Institute which states that;
considerable confusion about data privacy measures, coupled with apparent over-optimism on the part of data protection (DP) professionals. However, both DP professionals and marketeers agree that outsourcing of marketing communications increases the risks to personal data.
Eighty-seven per cent of DP professionals but only 69 per cent of marketing personnel agree or strongly agree that their organisations comply with DP laws and regulations. Twenty-five percent of marketeers and a mere 9 per cent of DP pros are unsure.
