You may not call it local newspaper anymore. After Passadena fiasco, we have one more case here. In Southern California, this Pulitzer Prize winning local newspaper called Orange County Register is going to outsource some copy editing jobs to Bangalore, India.
The one month project feasibility testing is beginning next month.
To cover the geographical clock, editors in India (off course they will be paid less minus other parks) will work five shifts in a week. They will broadly perform lay out designing for a community paper at the company that owns the aforementioned newspaper.
You after all can not blame the management, Orange County Register Communications Inc. They have a right to survive after all. It has been through three round of lay offs in the last twelve month time.
Whether its Bangalore or NewDelhi, I am not sure. This news report is saying that a company called Mindworks has bagged the contract which is based in Gurgaon, New Delhi.
Mindworks’ Web site says the company is based outside New Delhi and provides “high-quality editorial and design services to global media firms ... using top-end journalistic and design talent in India.” Editors at Mindworks will work five shifts a week for one month, performing layout for the community paper and editing some stories in the flagship Register, Fabris said. Staffing at the company will not be affected, he said.
