A career in Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) is no more considered as stop-gap opportunities for employees working there. The perception towards the industry, which mostly awakes at night, has changed to a large extent in the recent years.
The outsourcing brouhaha, which has sent ripples into the Indian society for not so right and weird reasons now it seems, is settling down. As the industry matures getting rid of its teething problems, there has been a change in the perception also from the masses in general. The industry no more consists of tele calling and tele-marketing processes, which mostly attracted college goers or fresh pass outs while giving them five figure (in Indian Rupee) salary and pick and drop and above all a highly Americanized environment. Less responsibility, a bohemian work culture
perception has got youngsters in plenty to the campus but people mostly used the platform as stop gap arrangement and vanished away as soon as they get something better (and meaningful) to lay their hands on keeping HR department at bay.
Now, in 2008, the trend seems to have softened. People who stuck to their organizations for couple of years or more are now in senior level positions. As the industry kept growing a fanatic speed, the industry gave more meaningful job opportunities and career prospect to people. Notwithstanding the young generation, the BPO industry now accumulating resources from all walks of life regardless of age bracket.
